Since its inception in 2001, the UTG School of Education has been evolving gradually into a center of excellence for teacher education and training in the context of the ongoing integration of tertiary education in the Gambia. The department started from a very small nucleus of one programme and one full time staff, depending heavily on part timers and staff from other departments.

Today, it has developed into a full-fledged school with staff from Africa and beyond mounting all the various courses with the programmes of the school. The School of Education is located at the university’s Brikama Campus. It is well equipped with modern educational tools and resources such as a library and high-speed internet facility.

Entry Requirements for the UTG School of Education

Admission to the programme is in accordance with the general requirements for entry to the University of The Gambia: Minimum of 5 credits ‘O’ level/WASSCE including English language and Mathematics for regular applicants.

Candidates must have strong WASSCE grades in the major they choose to apply for. For instance, a candidate must have a credit in Mathematics to be considered for a major in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Mature candidates should have, at least 15 years of, adequate teaching experience at senior secondary school level and possessing 4 ‘O’ level/WASSCE credits including English language and a pass in Mathematics for regular students.


UTG School of Education Tuition Fee

The annual tuition fee is D31,800 for Gambians and $ 3,750 for international students. Students have the option of paying the whole amount or half of the amount per semester (D15,900/$1875 respectively). Other costs include Union, Development, Technology and Library fees amounting to D1, 200.

It is worth noting that, UTG only allows students that pay at least 40% of the due fees to sit to examinations. These payments can be made at any of the various Trust Bank Ltd. Branches across the country. The university is notified of this payment and you are cleared to attend classes and sit to the examinations.
